The Feldenkrais Method has unique ways of working.

This combination of approaches sets it apart among other fine body-mind methods:

  • We emphasize learning rather than therapy. Each lesson is designed to provide novel input to your nervous system through movement and touch.  This results in a change in the way you operate! This is somatic learning – a body-mind learning experience unlike anything else.
  • We have no set form, routine, or sequence of movements for you to memorize! Each lesson is exploratory in nature.  There is absolutely no memorization or previous experience required.
  • Each lesson is designed with you in mind -- always. There is no one-size-fits-all attitude here!  Never.
  • We have tremendous variety to choose from. Lessons can be taught on a massage table, a fitness ball, in a chair, lying on your back, on your stomach, on your side, on all fours, in a standing position, or even standing on your head!  There are lessons that are very simple with small, almost imperceptible movements, and those with huge, challenging movements.
  • We emphasize working smart, not hard! Surprisingly, your learning will be accelerated if you approach your lessons in a relaxed way, so we often say, "Don't push yourself!"  Instead, we encourage you to discover how you move, think, sense and feel, and to allow the learning to take place on its own.  And it will, as surely as night follows day! You'll have to experience it for yourself to fully appreciate the enormity of this axiom:  Don't work so hard!
  • We are not measuring you against a fixed standard of perfection! Each person is uniquely made, and brings an accumulated personal history to individual lessons.  Therefore, we help you find your own personal best; we do not ask you to imitate anyone else.
  • We are able to provide lessons for anyone,  at any level of ability! Almost everyone can improve.  If you are a world class athlete or an accomplished dancer, you can find refinement that will give you a competitive edge.   If you are recovering from an accident, you can nearly always learn to get back more of your functioning.  If you are using  a wheelchair for extended periods, you can learn to be more comfortable in your chair.  If you are learning a new skill,  regaining something you have lost, or looking to slow the tide of aging, there is a lesson which will benefit you.
